This position will be reporting to Chief Engineer, Generation Planning. The key duties and responsibilities will include;

Assist in preparing the Least Cost Power Development Plan (LCPDP) for the power generation and transmission system expansion.
Carrying out generation expansion simulations.
Preparing annual and long term power and energy balances.
Maintaining data on key indicators of power demand and generation.
Assist in planning for power generation in line with power system development objectives.
Carrying out power generation studies and making recommendations for power utilisation.
Maintenance, evaluation and regular upgrade of generation planning tools.
Undertaking technical and economic studies on the power industry towards enhancing supply quality and ensuring cost effective generation mix.
Assisting in development and implementation of power sector policies.
Assisting in technical supporting development and negotiation of Power Purchase Agreements.
Compiling management reports for internal and external users and other agencies.
Responsible for managing risk and implementation of mitigation strategies.
Ensuring compliance of the Company policies, regulations, standards and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
Coaching, mentoring and developing the team to ensure optimal performance and effective succession planning.

Appointment Specification

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from a recognized Institution.
Eight (8) years’ relevant work experience in generation simulation tools, power planning or energy modelling, three (3) of which should be in a Supervisory role.
Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
