As the Senior Technical Advisor, you will support the HETA team across a range of geographic and technical areas, focusing on the financing and development of distributed renewable energy initiatives. You will support HETA country teams to design program strategies, provide technical assistance to facilitate effective implementation, and assure the quality of country level outcomes. You will also facilitate and broker partnerships with external private companies, donors, and other relevant organizations in a variety of settings at the regional and country level.
Core Responsibilities
Provide technical input into HETA’s approaches to financing and implementing health facility electrification (HFE) activities.
Collaborate with the HETA Financing Lead to develop and execute strategies for raising investment capital to support HFE.
Develop relationships with key project stakeholders including private sector firms and institutions, NGOs, international donor organizations, and other institutional and research partners under the project.
Lead co creation exercises with energy service companies and HFE stakeholders and support structuring of innovative HFE ideas from the public and private sector.
Provide technical and commercial support to HETA country programs, working alongside the deputy director, chief of parties and implementation leads.
Collaborate with HETA country teams on the development of strategies for engaging energy service providers regionally and at the country level.
Advise on and support engagement of government ministries in implementing countries.
Promote HETA initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.
Participate in collaborative activities with partners across the sub-Saharan African.
Support the planning of project milestones and high-level goals in coordination with clients and partners.
Assist in the development of annual planning and timely, high-quality implementation of activities and deliverables.
Support the management team in providing general oversight and guidance to country programs, with a focus on increased buy-ins from private sector and other institutions.
Provide global thought leadership and support learning for to advance best practices and innovations for sustainable HFE models.
What We Value
Bachelor’s Degree + Fifteen years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + Twelve years of relevant experience, or PhD + Ten years of relevant experience
An advanced degree in economics, energy/environmental, engineering, or a related field.
Experience in managing international development energy projects as a senior manager: field-based experience with USAID projects preferred.
Experience managing donor-funded projects in developing countries.
10+ years of experience working with energy sector programs with progressive leadership experience.
Experience providing long or short-term in-country technical assistance to developing and/or emergent nations.
Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders including national governments, regulators, utilities, financial institutions, project developers, donor community, and private sector.
Knowledge of USAID energy and climate programming under IDIQs, Global Development Alliances, regional programs and bilateral projects is strongly desired.
Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and leadership skills, including the ability to manage high-level relationships and motivate subordinates across large geographies.
Fluency in English is required; experience in a second language is preferred.
