POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly-organized technical advisor to provide technical expertise and support in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the project-Integrating the Neglected Tropical Diseases Program into the Kenyan Health System. The job holder will work closely and collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and international partners, during the project's implementation and evaluation phases. The position will be based in Nairobi, with regular travels to the field to provide technical and implementation support to both county and national governments and other actors. This role requires a solid understanding of Kenya's health system, the NTD program in Kenya, and the epidemiology and control strategies for various NTDs.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management:
Assist in developing an integration model for integrating the Neglected
Tropical Diseases Program into the Kenyan Health System, operationalize the model, and collate evidence on its feasibility, costeffectiveness, and impact.
Assist in the development a coordination framework for NTD service delivery into the mainstream health system
Ensure NTD control and elimination activities are designed and implemented in line with national and international guidelines
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to design and implement evidence-based strategies to control and eliminate NTDs in accordance with national and international guidelines
Monitor and evaluate the progress of NTD interventions, analyze data, and propose adaptive measures to improve program efficiency and effectiveness.
Develop detailed work plans, budgets, and timelines to ensure the effective execution of the project’s activities
Technical Expertise:
Provide technical guidance to field teams and partners working on NTD control projects.
Provide expert advice on NTDs, their transmission, prevention, and control measures.
Stay up-to-date with the latest research, best practices, and innovations in the field of NTDs.
Advocacy & communication:
Advocate for increased attention, funding, and political commitment to NTD control at the national and county levels.
Advocate for increased awareness and support for NTD control and elimination efforts.
Develop and disseminate educational materials and communication campaigns to raise awareness about NTDs and their impact on public health.
Collaboration and networking:
Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to strengthen the NTD control network.
Collaborate with local communities, partners, and stakeholders to mobilize resources and build alliances.
Technical Advisor-NTDs
Coordination: Foster coordination and collaboration among various organizations and partners involved in NTD control efforts, including Ministries of Health, WHO, and NGOs.
Represent the organization in relevant technical working groups, conferences, and meetings related to NTDs.
Work with various NTD stakeholders to coordinate the integration of NTD services within community outreaches.
Research and Innovation:
Support the project to conduct a health system readiness and capacity assessment to integrate NTD services into Kenya's health system.
Support other research initiatives and participate in evaluation studies to assess the effectiveness of the NTD integration model
Support the introduction of innovative approaches and technologies to improve NTD control efforts.
Monitor program indicators and outcomes to assess the impact of interventions and identify areas for improvement
Capacity Building:
Collaborate with national and regional health authorities to enhance their capacities in NTD surveillance, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Work with various factions to develop and embed NTD modules within the CHV training curriculum
Conduct training sessions and workshops for healthcare professionals, community health workers, and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in NTD control.
Reporting & Documentation:
Preparing and submitting timely and accurate reports on epidemiological findings and program activities.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
At least three years’ experience of working within the NTD sector
Relevant university degree; Master’s degree in Public Health or Statistics an added advantage
Strong project management skills; strategic about achieving set objectives o Agile and able to simultaneously manage and ensure quality execution of multiple tasks Detailoriented, excellent in oral and written communication, with strong analytical skills
Excellent in problem solving skills o Strong knowledge of the epidemiology of NTDs and their targeted interventions o Familiarity with WHO guidelines and strategies for NTD control and elimination
