Purpose of Job

A Reliability Engineer I will apply Asset Management principles to enable the safe and cost-effective utilisation of assets throughout their life cycle in the Sasol Sasolburg Operations  areas.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Business Results: 

Analyse reliability metrics, and utilise competencies as a reliability engineer to drive continuous improvement within the business Perform inherent risk analysis on equipment and utilise outcomes of reliability studies to inform maintenance and capital decisions within the business Assist with the justification of critical spares holding, and assess optimal maintenance interventions through product life-cycle costing (LCC) analysis using the Salvo DST (or similar) software Use Risk Based Inspection (RBI) outcomes for pressure equipment, critical tanks, and major hazardous installations (MHI) and through facilitated contact sessions for electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and rotating equipment, to indicate at risk and end-of-life equipment, in order to inform renewal or repair decisions of equipment Develop Equipment Maintenance Strategies (EMS) and implement through the application of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) Perform Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and lead the review as facilitator on pressure vessels, critical tanks, and major hazardous installations (MHI) Perform a facilitator and reporting role in Deviation Management (DM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Utilise SAP or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) functionality and related sources of data to be used in reliability, failure, and data analysis as well as the reporting of bad actor equipment Perform Integrity studies to identify the cause of bad actor equipment and recommend possible solutions to improve performance Integrate the outcome of Operate within Agreed Parameter (OWAP) monitoring initiatives by all engineering disciplines in support of managing the risk of equipment failure on operations

Leadership and Values: 

Apply the asset management process model (operations core processes) in the relevant operations department Effectively and efficiently utilize best engineering practice Issue reliability engineering reports (reviews) at agreed intervals after thorough analysis (utilising various data sources) that gives clear guidance on focus areas for the improvement of plant reliability Identify improvement opportunities that will help ensure that reliability engineering processes are effective and efficient as they relate to the asset management model Be the custodian of practices and contribute to continuous improvement of the reliability business processes, procedures, work instructions and systems in the relevant operation department

Relationships,Teamwork and Collaboration: 

Ensure that processes governed by reliability engineering are understood by all role players in the relevant operating department Support personnel in the operations departments to obtain the necessary competence in reliability practices through training, facilitation and coaching Contribute to the prioritisation of improvement activities and projects within the operations departments based on OEE improvements Track the health of reliability governance processes in operations departments and influence proper application of such governance
Ensure reliability metrics are established, optimised and the trends reported on to drive the continuous improvement of sustainable operations and optimal utilisation of systems Identify digitalisation opportunities within current environment and partner with stakeholders in the business to deliver improvements to current reporting Track and report on critical next steps from incident investigations of significant operations impact Provide coverage as requested by the Senior Manager Reliability, based on business need, for specialist investigations and/ or studies in other areas across Sasolburg Operations.

Formal Education

University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Post grad qualification or other formal training in Reliability Engineering (wish)

Min Experience

3 years of experience (minimum) in an engineering field
Knowledge of reliability engineering
Knowledge of processing/manufacturing plant operations and maintenance principles
Good working knowledge of SAP
Knowledge of Asset management principles
Good working knowledge of problem-solving tools
Experience in a chemical plant environment (Wish)
Experience in RBI and RBI facilitator (Wish
