Hallo! One charity organization offered me, as a volunteer, to sign a contract for a year. No pay, benefits or gifts.
It looks like slavery to me, because volunteering is voluntary.
Please tell me, is it normal practice to sign a volunteer agreement?
Thank you

  • NOOOOOO

  • It's good to sign the contract for your own good and to the good of the company too.

  • It is in order to sign a olunteer agreement and retain a copy for yourself. This agreement is proof for your experience in the field of service - you... gain experience whether you volunteer or in permanent employment. This same organization will give you employment based on your dedication and performance. Ensure you give your best during your volunteer period & i wish you the best. more

  • If you're a performer, there are high chances of you getting employed. So hang in there.

    3
  • Yes, that is your contribution to the organization.

    2
  • Volunteers get paid in different ways and they are gifted too.
You can sign up for a contract for security reasons of which you must retain a copy... too more

  • A contract of service offered by an organization to a volunteer is a form of commitment by the recipient organization to the volunteer for the period... assigned. Volunteering should be self-motivated and driven by passion in what one loves, often times little or no tangible appreciations expected, but rather I would urge the volunteer to take it as an opportunity to enhance their skills and clearly translate academic knowledge to real life field situations and offer solutions to everyday life situations and challenges. Money will always come!
    Thanks

  • Volunteer Agreements
    Overview
Signing a volunteer agreement or contract especially for long-term or committed volunteer positions us very common It's... essential to review the terms carefully.

    Key Considerations
1: Ensure the agreement emphasizes the voluntary nature of your involvement.
2: Verify that you're not being coerced or pressured into signing.
3: Understand the organization's expectations, roles, and responsibilities.
4: Check if the agreement allows for flexibility or termination.

Some organizations use volunteer agreements to:

    1. Clarify expectations by outlining roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
    2. *Establish boundaries by defining the scope of the volunteering work.
    3. *Protect both parties by ensuring mutual understanding and protection.
Be careful If the agreement seems overly restrictive or exploitative, it may be a concern. Consider:
    1. *Unreasonable commitments*: Excessive time commitments or responsibilities.
    2. *Lack of flexibility*: Inflexible terms or

  • I understand your concern. However, slavery is being forced to do something to benefit others. Volunteering is choosing to do something to benefit... others, without recompense. But uncommitted, unqualified or reluctant volunteers are useless and defray from their mission. So, please only volunteer for causes you feel passionate about and that you have the time, energy and ability to do. You'll know it's a good fit when you feel enthusiastic about it. Until then, you're better off taking a pass. (And yes, contracts and even background or health checks, depending on the position, are perfectly normal; you're not being singled out.) Best of luck, whatever you decide.  more

  • Volunteering is a good thing, eventhough it might seem stressful, especially when no money is coming from it, it helps you to learn and upgrade... yourself skillfully.  more

  • It's not bad to volunteer as long as you love serving others and feel glad about your job and activities tasked to do.

  • Therefore it's important you have free time for the recipient organization for the stated period under the Contract of Services for Volunteering.

  • A Contract of Services for Volunteering, is to safeguard the recipient organization a guarantee that those services will be provided by the volunteer... during the period under review.
Until after expiration of the period should look elsewhere for another volunteer.
