Your Role
The Market Research Lead - GIS (Geographical Information Systems) is a fundamental role in developing the much-needed capacity to support ongoing expansion inside and outside Kenya. Together with a small team in Nairobi, Kenya, the Market Research Lead - GIS will perform a broad range of activities and operate cross-functional. Core to the role is to perform quantitative assessments of market data and prepare supportive maps and tables. A key component of the role is to have the ability to utilize ‘big data’.You will work closely with the broader Market Research team and operate cross-functional as the point of contact for the much-needed “Network Files” as well as visualizing market opportunities for our global New Market Team. The candidate will be the central point of contact for all geography-related assessments.
What You Will Do!
Support our Market Research agenda
Prepare and maintain workflows
Provide spatial analytics support
Act as a point of contact for Data & GIS requests
Strengthen the MR team with strong data & GIS capacity
Assist with driving the Data/GIS agenda, and support our Data/GIS function with core MR deliverables that require complex data analysis and evaluations.
Jointly develop and drive the agenda of MR data & GIS initiatives.
Identify the right geo-tiles including supportive market data (e.g. KNBS data).
Engage with colleagues in our product department to ensure timely delivery of work.
Modify spatial layers to reusable format for backend users i.e. (shape to WKT etc.)
Provide spatial analytic support and actionable insights to the department and broader company.
Utilize the QGIS Cloud and/or ArcGIS platforms.
Build easily consumed, aesthetically appealing, and visually impactful maps.
Engage with colleagues company-wide, local consultants, and enumerators to drive projects and the strategic (MR) data & GIS agenda.
Speedy delivery of tasks, ability to prepare maps on short notice with diligence and accuracy.
Technically aware and competent. Process fast amounts of data in a concise and coherent manner; store and organize data; make raw data insightful.
Perform deep data analysis on (self-collected & readily available) data that will be utilized in the maps.
Data tables with supportive maps that geospatially illustrate data and insights.
What you will bring to KOKO
A BSc in Geography and/or Geomatics, ideally paired with an Academic Research Master in Remote Sensing, Data Engineering, or alike.
5+ years of work experience in a managerial GIS role, alongside experience with data sciences.
Experienced with renewable energy (cooking fuel) and/or Carbon Yield assessments will be an added advantage.
Ability to utilize GIS tools to geospatially frame and scope new geographies
Familiar with innovation in GIS, and strong data capability.
Project and product -management and Proven ability to drive field projects end to end.
Pragmatic problem-solving and practical creativity are necessary competencies.
Confidence in adapting to new tools and platforms: learn and utilize the latest software platforms; update MR team on new tools; provide technical support when needed.
