Responsibilities

Design, develop and implement climate change and resilience plans, policies, strategies, programs, and projects.
Provide strategic direction and leadership regarding sub-programme’s work
Lead City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) in response to climate change and resilience
Evaluate and validate climate change resilience programs for carbon offsets and renewable energy credits and related emissions
Identify resilience strategies for ecosystem impacts from climate change that are strategic to the organization's operations
Implement a climate change strategy containing set targets for each economic sector in the CoE, linked to implementation of programmes.
Implement programmes that advance the use of cleaner and more efficient fuels and transport technologies in CoE fleet, all public buildings and street lights
Implement measures to limit the production and use of ozone depleting substances in line with national and international requirements.
Contribute relevant climate change considerations to the strategic planning process by providing the necessary data on the organisation's own operations as well as global climate data
Adapt to and implement changes in policy, laws, regulations, initiatives, and relevant industry practices, making recommendations accordingly
Monitor external information and ensure sufficient knowledge of related acts, regulations and regulatory frameworks and implement accordingly
Ensure compliance with MFMA and other applicable legislations and regulations in the City
Compute cost estimates of different conservation practices, based on the needs of land users, maintenance requirements, or life expectancy
Build and maintain relationships with customers and internal and external stakeholders that promote cross functional process delivery solutions
Implement proper contract management and ensure that service delivery is rendered

Job Requirements

Degree in Natural Sciences/Environmental Management /NQF Level 7: Higher Education and Training, First Degrees/Advanced Diplomas
3 years’ experience in a similar environment
