Background of Project:
Anchor for Life Support and Resilience (ALSAR) proposes a Livelihood Support and Education project aimed at addressing critical barriers to sustainable livelihood and quality learning for acutely vulnerable families in conflict-affected communities of Maiduguri, Borno State. "Educate Her" is a transformative livelihood support project aimed at uplifting vulnerable families with adolescent girls who are at risk of dropping out of school or facing early/forced marriage due to poverty. In response to the urgent need to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation of girls, this comprehensive initiative will provide educational support to young girls, equip caregivers with vocational skills, financial literacy, business management skills, and establish or enhance micro-businesses to ensure sustainable livelihoods. By fostering a culture of savings, entrepreneurship, and education, the project aim to create a positive impact on the lives of marginalized families and uplift the entire community. In many communities of MMC and Jere LGAs in Borno State, girls face significant barriers to accessing quality education due to poverty and traditional gender roles. Forced into early marriages or domestic responsibilities, these girls often see their dreams of an education fade away. Moreover, their caregivers struggle to provide financial support, perpetuating a cycle of poverty that affects generations. The project seeks to address these multifaceted challenges by providing comprehensive support to vulnerable families. The project's primary focus is on empowering families through sustainable livelihood opportunities, while simultaneously incorporating a critical Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) component to ensure the well-being and agency of adolescent girls.
The primary objective of the "Educate Her" project is to increase school retention rates and empower vulnerable adolescent girls to complete their primary/secondary education, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering them to make informed decisions about their future. Also, to empower their caregivers with financial literacy in other to provide support for these girls in their academics.
