THE OPPORTUNITY
This internship is a valuable opportunity for recent graduates in the field of communications or related areas to gain hands-on experience in the non-profit sector. This six-month program will provide the intern with real-world exposure to the communication strategies and techniques used to promote Fred Hollows Foundations’ mission to eliminate avoidable blindness in Kenya.
The intern will work alongside the Communications team to develop engaging content for various channels, assist with event planning and execution, and support data collection and analysis to inform communication strategies. Through on-the-job mentorship and coaching, the intern will gain personal and professional development, including an understanding of communication best practices and the challenges and opportunities facing the non-profit sector. The intern will also have the satisfaction of contributing to a worthy cause that has a positive impact on the lives of many people in Kenya.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Organise and update FHF photo library.
Capturing and documenting events.
Provide general support for comms department, including managing the department calendar, general scheduling for meetings.
Aid in production of FHF publications.
Pitching stories to the local media.
Taking minutes during meetings for the purpose of ensuring the activities are well planned and operate smoothly.
Ensure logistics set up for all project related travels.
Provide any other project management related task upon request by the communications team.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Bachelor’s degree in communications or any other communications related field.
Excellent command of English (both written and spoken)
Proficient in Ms Office Suite, MS Excel, Word and Adobe suite.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, self-directed environment under deadline pressures.
Ability to manage own workload independently, multi-task and prioritize effectively.
Detail oriented and proactive.
