Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Computational Engineering Design Specialist to assist with developing/implementing automated design workflows and tools. This role is being created within our Enterprise Capabilities Team and the successful candidate will report to the Computational Design Leader.
This person will assist with the development /implementation of globally applicable automation tools and processes, in addition to working on design projects to further develop workflow definitions and test tools that have been created in a project production setting.
This role in South Africa offers the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement, a combination of remote and office work schedules. AECOM has offices in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and Pretoria (Centurion).

Job Description

This role requires expertise in several different areas, including:

Expert user of digital production platforms in the domain of computational and parametric engineering design; At least one of the following technology stacks: Revit + Dynamo, Rhino + Grasshopper. Knowledge of more than one platform, including Generative Components, will be considered as a plus.
Creator and author of definitions using out of the box nodes tools within the defined platforms. The ability to create and maintaining custom nodes using Python and/or C# is also preferrable.
Parametric modelling, creation and development of smart objects (i.e.: Revit Families using adaptive components), with customisable functionality and custom-built parameters for automation
Digital tools deployment, ensure that development is focused on production team usage, for example, automated workflows that can be operated by Revit users using Dynamo Player or Orkestra.

Key responsibilities:

Work with project teams to accurately capture the requirements of any workflow we are seeking to automate, to create a specification for the tools and content that will be required to achieve the automation aim.
Create and author definitions that satisfy the aims of the automation workflow, so that the tool need can be validated, and deployed in production.
Contribute to the creation of advanced parametric content that will be required by many of the automation tools being created.
Production of 3D BIM project models aligned to project specified BIM requirements using Autodesk Revit
In collaboration with AECOM Digital Delivery global and the Digital Engineering Leads, engage on design automation initiatives across global regions for multiple design disciplines
Advise and provide support for interoperability procedures between authoring software, and interfacing CAD/BIM & Analysis software packages.
Support the development of computational engineering standards and best practices, through non-project design technology workshops.
Open and willing to be flexible regarding taking on varied types of work, learn and develop new skills for digital project delivery whilst supporting the project teams with traditional deliverables.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computational Engineering, Engineering Design, Architecture, or Information Management, or related discipline plus at least 2-3 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Very good working knowledge of BIM Platforms complimentary to using authoring tools (i.e.: BIM360/ACC, Navisworks, ProjectWise, Revizto, etc.)
Proven track record of design automation experience using the required platforms.
Proven track record of the ability to create complex parametric content (predominantly Revit families), for use with automation tools.
Technical design and construction knowledge in engineering design and construction.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of any of the following will be considered favourable: Revit SDK, Dynamo SDK, Forge APIs, Rhinoceros SDK, Grasshopper SDK, RhinoInside, RhinoCompute (Hops), Bentley Connect SDK, Python, C#
Experience within Building, Transportation or Water/P&P design projects
Architecture, Engineering or Computational Design degree or similar professional education
